      Great Northern Connect, a joint venture between Laing O'Rourke BGC Contracting, is delivering the central section of NorthLink Stage 2. The project comprises the first section of the Perth Darwin National Highway which aims to reduce congestion and provide the northern link into Perth for heavy freight traffic and growing suburban developments. This central section project will construct a free flowing link from Reid Highway to Ellenbrook, improving access to Ellenbrook and the surrounding precincts. It includes nearly 20km of highway with four interchanges, including 14 road bridges and three footbridges. Key construction works include: An interchange at the Reid Highway and Tonkin Highway intersection Flyovers at Marshall Road and Beechboro Road Interchanges at Hepburn Avenue, Gnangara Road and at Ellenbrook New cycling and pedestrian facilities including a four-metre wide shared path to Ellenbrook.

The $2 Billion State Government funded Forrestfield Airport Link is the transport solution to improve the connections to and from Perth Airport, the eastern suburbs and regional centres. The project will consist of 7.1km of dual bore tunnel and 3 stations, Airport West, Consolidated Airport and Forrestfield. Construction will begin in 2016 with the first trains running on the line in 2020. The work consists of;• Earthworks – stockyard, conveyor link earthworks, rail formation and Car dumper excavation• Drill and Blast – 3,725,000m3 of rock blasted and excavated• Crushing and Screening – 1,567,000tonnes of pavement material produced• Services – 8km of Construction water, electric and fibre optic installed• Sealed pavement – 11Km of sealed pavement with all associated road furniture Personally I am overseeing AU $40 million worth of work with activities which include but are not limited to; Compiling weekly and monthly reports issued internally and to the client, Subcontractor management, Cost control, Cost forecasting, Prepare technical queries, Liaise with the client and subcontractors, Prepare subcontracts, Plan, design, document and mange construction activities, Implement and monitor programme performance, Chair daily meetings and Ensure activities are being carried out in accordance with the Quality, Environmental and Safety Management systems.

The scope of this contract involves 1,500,000m3 of bulk earthworks forming a new Stacker, Reclaimer and associated stockyards, extending the existing ship loader causeway and constructing new dredge settlement pond areas. These works will assist in taking the FMG through port capacity from 45MTPA to 155MTPA. The contract also includes 12,000m3 of structural concrete, the construction of 4,500 CFA piles and installation of a further 12km of trackwork Sub contracted to MacDow rail, for which NRW will provide the detailed earthworks and micro management. My responsibilities in the role as Project Engineer include:• Reporting to the Project Manager• Planning work requirements and effectiveness• Quality assurance and control• Technical control• Financial control• Conduct daily inspections• Monitor that HSE procedures are in accordance with the projects Health, Safety and Environmental plan• Ensure all personnel and work activities are carried out in a safe manner
