Non-Destructive Testing Research • Researched several Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods in collaboration with Siemens engineers, and recently published a paper on a new and innovative method known as laser acoustic thermography • Designed and implemented several lab experiments for laser acoustic thermography and traditional acoustic thermography • Constructed and ran a FEA on the experiments to determine the accuracy of this analysis with the results of the… Show more Non-Destructive Testing Research • Researched several Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods in collaboration with Siemens engineers, and recently published a paper on a new and innovative method known as laser acoustic thermography • Designed and implemented several lab experiments for laser acoustic thermography and traditional acoustic thermography • Constructed and ran a FEA on the experiments to determine the accuracy of this analysis with the results of the experiment HTS (High Temperature Superconductor) Research • Designed a cryogenic mechanical testing rig, which utilized liquid nitrogen, to create an experimentation procedure capable of the determination of material properties (elasticity) at 77K • Researched the requirements to utilize HTS on power generators in order to increase efficiency TBC (Thermal Barrier Coatings) Research • Completed experiments at Argonne National Lab which used X-Ray diffraction to determine internal stresses on TBC samples and calculate the coefficient of thermal expansion • Conducted experiments where temperature measurement techniques were compared including phosphor thermometry, IR, and pyrometry • Implementing the fractal dimension to study the effect of the roughness of the interface between the coatings on the overall lifetime of the TBC Inspection Robotics Research • Developed prototypes of nose-following snake inspection robots capable of 360 degree of rotation for the purpose of turbomachinery inspection, while the cover is on; robot would enter through a port or the exhaust of the turbine • Currently leading two teams of senior design students at UCF for the purposes of creating a nose following snake robot capable of completing a maze • Responsible for setting course milestones, checking progress with teams, conducting weekly meetings, and setting up meetings with Siemens and UCF faculty • Wrote a Matlab code to determine the effect of the robots turning capabilities with maze navigation potential
