      Hotel Huntington, San Francisco, CA Beginning January 13, 1973, Mintun performed for 16-1/2 years at toney San Francisco restaurant L’Etoile, in the Hotel Huntington. On July 23 Herb Caen wrote an item about Hoagy Carmichael going to hear Mintun. It would be the first gossip item of over 100 in Caen’s widely read column in the San Francisco Chronicle. Throughout the 1970s and ‘80s, the unnamed lounge at L’Etoile became synonymous with international sophistication, and was compared to New York’s Café Carlyle.
