When I joined Seevic College, I overhauled outdated teaching materials in both Geology and Geography, and was instrumental in improving results from “notice to improve” to some of the best outcomes and attendance in the college. I have been acknowledged by the senior leadership team as an outstanding, highly organised and motivated teacher across Geography, Geology and General Studies. As the longest serving member of staff within the department, I have continued to improve student success rates by leading both areas and instilling high expectations and a strong work ethic. This year’s A2 Geography results were the best ever with VA 2 and 61% of students achieving grades A*-B with a 100% pass rate (A2 General Studies VA 1, 60% A*-B, 100% pass rate; GCSE Maths 60% pass rate). I have demonstrated my commitment to both Geography and Geology by running both courses without remuneration since the Head of Department left in 2010. My oil industry experience and knowledge have helped inspire many of my students to study the subject at university, and in terms of subject destinations, it is the highest in Humanities. I have led Geology since 2010, and this year, 55% of the A2 geologists achieved grades A-B with 100% pass rate and the subject achieved a value-added grade of 4. Since 2010, I have organised the A2 fieldtrip to Dorset, visiting several localities culminating with A2 fieldwork (F796) at Kimmeridge Bay. The OCR exam board use my marked coursework to train geology teachers as exemplar material, as it is consistently accurate. I was Head of Humanities from 2011 until 2014, which involved leading a diverse group of subjects. In 2013 to 2014, one success story was improvements in attendance by reducing the number of classes below 90% from eight to two, and increasing classes above 95% from two to eight in fourteen subjects (AS and A2). This was accomplished by early interventions, high expectations of punctuality and attendance and clear communication. Show less

Teacher of ICT (KS3/4/5), Geography (KS3/4) teacher. During this time I was able to bring my highly developed IT skills, acquired whilst working at Shell, into my teaching materials. I also introduced more enjoyable and challenging topics, such as webpage design, into year 7 lessons. I took on the IT Head of KS3 role and made radical improvements to the schemes of work. Regular assessment with feedback, and use of exemplar work helped students to progress. In Geography, I was not only able to bring my advanced IT skills into lessons, making them more engaging, but also to impart first-hand knowledge and experience gained during my time travelling extensively throughout the world, particularly in Asia and South America. Students have expressed an appreciation of Geography being brought to life and made relevant to them in a way that a textbook cannot. Show less

Co-ordinated transfer of well data, in-house and to partners, ensuring data quality and availability for geologists/seismic interpreters in a timely manner. • Co-ordinated well ‘post-mortems’ in order to control future well costs and timings.
