Youth Development Volunteer
-
Jan 2013 - Jan 2014
My role as a youth development volunteer required teaching English classes, leading health, environment, drama, and music clubs, and working as a leader during Intensive English Camps sponsored by the Moroccan Ministry of Youth and Sports. I integrated into my community by gaining proficiency in Moroccan Arabic and participating in the cultural life of my friends and neighbors. I also worked to fulfill the Peace Corps Mission to promote a better understanding of Moroccans on the part of Americans by sharing writings, photographs and videos on my blog: www.brittandpete.blogspot.com.

Better Choices, Better Health Program Facilitator

May 2011 - Nov 2012
As Program Facilitator for the Better Choices, Better Health Program, I managed a team of volunteers and community partners to deliver evidence-based Diabetes and Chronic Disease Self-Management Workshops to older adults throughout Tarrant County. I received training in Stanford's Self-Management Program as a lay leader workshop facilitator and led workshops in senior centers, churches, schools, and retirement living facilities. I recruited community volunteers living with diabetes and other chronic diseases to participate in lay leader trainings and lead workshops alongside trained public health professionals.

Retired Senior Volunteer Program Coordinator
-
Sep 2010 - Nov 2012
As Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) Coordinator, I worked under the Project Director to facilitate volunteer work on behalf of over 1,000 older adults seeking a sense of dignity and purpose after retirement. I worked with over 80 community nonprofits to recruit and refer older adult volunteers to their programs. My duties included maintaining a database of volunteer opportunities and volunteer hours in order to provide up-to-date grant reporting numbers, and I wrote the successful grant renewal narrative ensuring $150,000 in federal funding for RSVP. I coordinated volunteer recognition events and worked alongside a volunteer advisory committee to do long-term project planning. During my last year as RSVP coordinator, I recruited and managed the first Tarrant County volunteers for the Senior Medicare Patrol, a statewide program to reduce Medicare Fraud in partnership with the Better Business Bureau and the Office of Inspector General.

Americorps Vista
-
Aug 2007 - Aug 2008
During my one-year commitment as a VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) with the In-Sight Photography Project, I ensured financial support for the organization by researching and writing successful grant requests, coordinated fundraising events, and helped establish a website for the organization's first online auction. By writing press releases, newsletter and website content and working with students, parents, and volunteers, I helped increase enrollment and retention for In-Sight's classes and programs. Finally, I also created new curricula and taught classes to adolescent photography students and helped lead the special student project, "A Day In the Life of Brattleboro".
