  Following the election of the Labor Government in Victoria late 2014, I was asked to lead the Major Sporting Events unit, in the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources. Key outcomes included: • Led the State's successful operation of key sports events including the Asian Cup, Cricket World Cup, ICC international soccer with Real Madrid, Manchester City and AS Roma and the Cadel Evans cycle race. All events achieved record attendances and resulted in significant economic benefits for the State • Managed major capital works programs on key Sports Trusts including at Melbourne Park, where a $263M capital works project was completed on time and on budget involving the development of Margaret Court Arena, the Eastern Plaza and the National Tennis Centre Show less

  Responsible for developing and overseeing Victoria's key sporting facilities and major sports events, as well as leading initiatives to increase community participation in sport and recreation activities. Responsibilities & Key Achievements: • Implemented and led the Government’s successful program which established Melbourne as the world’s leading sports city and major event destination. During this period, Melbourne was voted the Sports-Business International’s Ultimate Sports City three times • Gained funding for and successfully managed key State sport capital works projects including the MCG Northern Stand redevelopment ($450M), AAMI Park rectangular stadium ($257M) and over $600M of upgrades of tennis and entertainment facilities at Melbourne Park. • Developed, introduced through Parliament and managed the world’s first event management legislation • Increased Victoria’s sports participation rate, as measured by the ABS, from Australia’s lowest State to the highest through innovative programs such as Premier’s Active April and targeted initiatives for Multicultural, Women, Youth and Seniors • Responsible for the Government’s major sport policy initiatives in areas such as integrity and match fixing, drugs in sport, sports safety, competition policy, anti-scalping initiatives, philanthropy, volunteers, spectator behaviour, active cities, adventure activity standards, recreation camps management and sports business attraction • Led major initiatives to upgrade community sports infrastructure across the State with innovative programs designed around pools, indoor sports centres, soccer, drought affected communities, and country football and netball, resulting in Victoria having the best community sports facilities across Australia • Developed new urban planning policies and guidelines, which now require developers to provide a minimum level of open space for sports facilities in new housing estates and subdivisions Show less

Victorian Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority

  VBRRA was established by the Victorian Government to manage the largest bushfire recovery and rebuilding program Australia has ever faced, following the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires The Authority worked with communities, business, charities and local government to help rebuild communities affected by bushfires. • Responsible for all operational functions of the Authority including the bushfire cleanup, temporary villages, water, sewage, fencing, business initiatives, donations, planning and the overall construction program • Managed the successful bushfire cleanup, which used a prime contractor and over 100 subcontractors to remove bushfire debris from over 3000 sites across the State. The project was completed successfully ahead of schedule • Oversaw the planning, construction and operation of three temporary villages for bushfire affected residents in Marysville, Flowerdale and Kinglake • Oversaw key operational functions for VBRRA including the provision of temporary and permanent water supplies, development of a coordinated fencing program with the Victorian Farmers Federation, provision of advice on new Building Regulations with the Building Commission, management of the collection and distribution of donated goods, establishment of temporary and permanent housing options and investigation of new business opportunities Show less
