Conservation Volunteers (CV) is a not for profit organisation which recruits both local and international volunteers to participate in a practical environmental projects throughout Australia and New Zealand. CV also implements several community focused education projects such as Conservation Land Management traineeship and community seminars.I have worked with the Newcastle CV office intermittently over the last five years. I have fulfilled a number of full-time and casual positions in-between other academic and professional pursuits in the natural resource management field.Key Responsibilities:• Supervise volunteers and trainees of varied ability in a variety of environments and time frames to complete various on ground projects (Bush regeneration, fencing, basic construction, track maintenance, rubbish and hazardous substance removal, chemical application and pest vertebrate management).• Individual Tasks such as professional bush regeneration, wetland landscape restoration, and ecological surveys.• Effective liaison with project partners, education professionals and staff at a levels to ensure the delivery of common goals.• Occupational health and safety administration and on ground auditing.

Gumma Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) is a protected area managed by the local Aboriginal community; the Bagga Bagga and Ngambar Clan groups of the Gambangyir Nation. As a project officer for the IPA reported to an operations manager and a board of management on natural resource management issues, budget constraints, staff management and community engagement protocols. Key Responsibilities: • Mapping, the use of Geographic Information systems, on ground assessments and reporting • Survey weeds and assist in the development of a weed management strategy for the reserve • Survey and mapping erosion hazards in the reserve and the development of a strategic plan to address erosion hazards. • Supervision of a ranger team in a variety of natural resource management activities.

With Macleay Area I was exposed to a variety of the day-to-day responsibilities of a New South Wales National Park Ranger including ecological monitoring and maintenance, visitor management, community engagement, strategic planning and statutory processes. Some of the key projects/activities that I took part in include: - Koala Habitat surveying in Arakoon National State Conservation Park. - The formulation and implementation of a visitor survey and management plan for Goolawah Regional Park. - Ecological monitoring as part of the Yarrahapani Wetlands restoration project and the Maria River Wildlife Project. - Visitor management at all National Park campgrounds during the summer holiday peak season.
