What separates Peet's employees from Starbucks employees is the pride we have in the product we sell. A Supervising Shift Lead's duties are also to maintain the four core components of a store: Cleanliness, Friendliness, Speed of Service, and Quality of Products. This means not just putting out fires, but seeing them in advance and continually thinking about the customer's experience. Beyond these front of house duties there are also money management, shift organization, inventory, and store maintenance responsibilities. Shift leads control the safe and registers; they are the ones who make bank runs and distribute tills. When employees call out sick, it usually falls on the shift leader to either find a suitable replacement or expedite the floor to make up for the loss of a body. When deliveries and seasonal promotions arrive, the shift lead is responsible for counting the new inventory and properly storing and labeling everything in an organized manner. If something breaks, it's the Shift Leads duty to troubleshoot the problem, fix it if possible, and then if the problem persists expedite the issue to one of our many contractors on hand. Because most of the work is repetitive at the base level, it’s easy to learn how to meet size and weight expectations for the product, but if you stop paying attention for even a minute you may have to trash an entire batch of dough. Speed is vital here because of the high volume of customers, lines can wrap around the building four times over which means that you have to be able to put your head down and keep pushing. Decorators are the ones with the authority, and if they call out they they need a certain item you’re not currently working on you have to be able to switch tasks. Show less
