I worked alongside Peter as part of the planning/feasibility stage of a multi-million dollar project. Peter was the project’s Study Manager, contracted from Palaris. The Project was a complex and multi-layered endeavour with many moving parts that were often subject to changes at short notice. Multiple levels of experts with varying degrees of influence and insight frequently presented with different viewpoints and differing agendas – creating a challenging environment that demanded diplomacy, adaptability and patience in equal measure. Peter brought all of these qualities to his role in addition to extensive expertise and experience, allowing him to act as a calm and consistent arbitrator, influence, mediator and problem-solver across a plethora of complicated scenarios. Peter was the calm in every storm that arose and the person who had the ability to answer every question whenever clarity or direction was wavering. He has the rare ability to communicate and engage with all stakeholders in a frictionless, intuitive and consistently effective way. He works with an eye on the end goal, an oversight for every detail, and a time-honed ingenuity that allows him to remedy organisational risk and dismantle operational barriers to seamlessly deliver substantial results. Added to all of this, Peter’s genuine warmth, personable nature and ability to inspire and uplift a team make him an absolute delight to work with. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Managed the concept, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for the Mandalong Southern Extension Project. The project went through a successful Environmental Assessment process resulting in a new Development Consent and Mining Lease for a thermal coal reserve of approximately 80 Mt. Execution of a $90M surface site (access road, 2 x ventilation shafts and main mine fans) commenced in February 2017. The relocation of a 2.4 km section of 330 kV power line was successfully completed on time.

Longwall Superintendent
-
Apr 1997 - May 1998
Dayshift Undermanager with specific responsibility for the longwall operations. Main duties included the preparation and supervision of the colliery’s last longwall relocation. This involved a change from a rail-based move to one using rubber tyred vehicles. Due to the changes from a ‘normal’ move, several crew meetings were held, along with visits to other collieries. Major achievements in this role were: • Implemented a change in the mining cycle to Bi-directional shearing for reasons of better roof control. This enabled a three month period of consistent production above budget with a best day of 17 200 tonnes. • Introduction of Huesker mesh instead of the welded mesh and W strap arrangement for the longwall bolt up. • Successfully maintained focus on longwall move during retrenchments, without any detrimental effects to the operation.
