PDRA for a joint Chinese-UK project developing a 5kW technology demonstrator of a low-temperature Organic Rankine Cycle. My responsibilities have included the initial thermodynamic analysis and design of the cycle, specification of components and fabrication of the rig. Once the rig has been commissioned I will be in charge of experimental analysis, with a view to generating publications.

PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Glasgow. My thesis title was "Theoretical and Experimental Analysis of an Organic Rankine Cycle". Theoretical work on the impact of varying heat sink temperatures on the Organic Rankine Cycle was backed up by experimental research on a 1kW rig developed in-house.Publications as lead author: "A dynamic organic Rankine cycle using a zeotropic mixture as the working fluid with composition tuning to match changing ambient conditions"Applied Energy, June 2016http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0306261916303257"Effect of Working Fluid Mixture Composition on the Performance of an Organic Rankine Cycle"ASME ORC Conference, Brussels 2015"A Combined Organic Rankine Cycle-Heat Pump System for Domestic Hot Water Application"Awarded Best Paper in the Energy and Environmental Systems category12th International Conference on Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics, Málaga 2016"Dynamic Organic Rankine Cycle with a Fixed Expansion Ratio Positive Displacement Expander"Awarded Best Paper in the Energy Conversion 1 category12th International Conference on Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics, Málaga 2016 Show less

PDRA for the DESTRESS European project investigating soft stimulation of geothermal reservoirs. My section of the project was to develop a multivariate Monte Carlo optimisation tool for the surface facilities of the power plant, building on my experience of theoretical analysis of ORCs gained during my PhD research.

Site-based graduate, with my time split between Babcock offices, and Heysham 2 Nuclear Power Station. I was attached to the Fuel Route Improvement team, which involved a mix of conceptual, design, analytical, and project management work, relating to the safe operation of all stages of the fuel route, from refuelling to irradiated fuel disposal, and treatment of radioactive effluent.
