I developed a suite of tools for navigating the public transportation system in Amman, Jordan. Using the data our group collected in Amman, I created a GTFS, the international data standard for organizing public transportation data. I then made an interactive map that shows how access to public transportation varies across different neighborhoods in Amman, as well as contributed to the development of the city's first trip planner application. Sep 2014 - Aug 2016
I co-founded a project to make the first map of Amman's public transportation system. To collect data on bus routes, I rode buses, recorded routes on a smartphone and interviewed passengers and drivers. I recruited additional volunteers, and our group eventually partnered with a local public transportation advocacy group, Ma'an Nasel, which spearheaded the development of the city's first printed transit map and a smartphone trip planner app. The map and app are available for download from Ma'an Nasel's website at: http://maannasel.net/map/.
