Pollution Control Officer

Jun 2007 - Apr 2008
Working in the pollution team I was involved in a number of areas of work, including reactive duties responding to customer complaints relating to pollution incidents. In addition I was involved in running the air quality monitoring network by calibrating the instruments and checking data daily. I was also been the main point of contact for the council for a project run by the University of Leicester to monitor air quality. This was a project comparing different methods of measuring air pollutants ranging from research grade instruments to routine monitoring instruments that the council uses. I also became involved in air quality modeling using AirViro and helped update the methods and protocols involved.

Process Support Technician
-
Feb 2006 - Aug 2006
In this position my role was to support the operation of sewage treatment works by identifying process related issues and offering solutions. I had to communicate effectively with both operators and managers as well as analyse and interpret data in order to correctly identify problems. In addition I was responsible for maintaining the routine sampling plan to ensure compliance with Environment Agency discharge consents and investigate incidents in which the discharge consents were broken. Where necessary it was also my role to train operators in the use of field based analytical equipment.
