FIRST Robotics Mentor/Coach

Jan 2016 - Present
I volunteer as an engineering mentor for the Hall of Fame Edina High School robotics team, "The Green Machine (www.edinarobotics.com). I serve as technical resource, meeting leader, one of the primary points of contact for our designers, in competition I act at our primary 'Pit Mentor'. We participate in the FIRST Robotics Competition (www.usfirst.org) against over 3,000 teams from around the world. This competition partners industry engineers / mentors with high school students to design and build a 6-foot tall, 150-pound robot to compete in a sports like game. The entire competition is structured to be like a real world engineering challenge: limited budget, short schedule, size & weight constraints, etc. Show less

● Focused on process optimization and system streamlining. Given the freedom to make the changes I determine would help. ● Developing safety procedure to load 350+ lbs molds into injection molding press, also decreased setup time by 12%. ● Update work instructions to reflect current procedure, and streamline QC process. ● Implement software solutions to automate data entry task, cutting the time needed down 95%+ ● Developed automated statistical analysis of production lifecycle to understand the bottlenecks in the system. ● Conducted time studies on the setup process, saw optimization through to completion. ● Evaluated FMEA on broken clamps. Software Test Automation Engineering Co-op
-
Jan 2018 - May 2018
Developed Lean, scalable, and stable software solution to solve problems around test automation and data analytics. ● Built test plans for all of the software tools made by Emerson, and built testing frameworks for our handheld device and web platform. In the case of the handheld, I developed logic level circuits to simulate swapping from one device to another. ● Worked with a team exclusively located 3000 miles away (Manila, Phillipines) to do system validation and integration. ● Developed simple solutions to solve complex problems. Using python we were able to simplify processes that were previously very time consuming, taking the time of 4 full time staff. That system now runs ‘lights off’ in 15 minutes each night. $160k a year in savings. ● Worked with Agile Software design, Python (2.7-3.6, and associated packages), Java, C#, Selenium and Robot Framework (web automation), Sikuli (windows automation), Jenkins (build deployment to test machines), VBA (proof of concept in data analysis), Power Bi and Tableau (data visualization).
