Peta is engaging with people at all levels in local government and associated agencies and stakeholders. She is a trusted advocate because she has made the effort to connect and understand the needs and aspirations of others and to assist in personal, team and industry development. Her calm outlook is an inspiration - nothing is too difficult and she has a special way to make the monotonous aspects an exciting challenge. She has grown the membership based organisation to provide contemporary information, advocacy and personal and team development. Local Government professionals in Queensland have achieved respect for their diversity of work, ability to innovate, responsiveness to opportunities to lead change and grow their teams due to Peta's involvement and leadership.

Peta has a flair for curating informative and practical industry events with engaging and relevant content. I particularly enjoyed the 2017 Future Leaders Forum in Cairns, which provided me with a range of great networking opportunities as well as some advice and strategies that I have been able to take away and implement in my day to day life. I've also been grateful for Peta's ability as a presenter in her own right. Our supervisors gave very positive feedback following her a recent training session in Burketown and have been using some of her techniques to better manage their own teams. It's always encouraging when new learning is absorbed and put to use by your staff, and the skill of the trainer plays a huge part in that.

International House is a residential college within the University of Queensland. Our vision is to cultivate connected, effective, compassionate young leaders for a global community. Our purpose is to provide students of diverse cultures and backgrounds with opportunities to live and learn together with respect, empathy and international friendship. So International House is not just about providing food and accommodation to students. It is about creating a home away from home where residents can genuinely engage with people from different backgrounds and cultures learn to understand and accept difference, including in gender, religion, sexuality and language. Residents are provided with extensive opportunities to participate in activities with other residents and to showcase aspects of their own culture and upbringing. At the same time, the College offers high levels of academic and social support to ensure that students achieve the best possible outcome and that neither background nor language are a barrier to excellence. The International House Foundation raises funds to support scholarships for residents facing financially difficulty and to encourage achievement and participation. It also engages with the wider community, seeking to promote the values of tolerance and understanding through the annual Peace and Understanding Lecture and various fetes and other events. Each year, the College hosts two dozen indigenous students from across the state for the Indigenous Youth Leadership Camp. These year 10-12 students are mentored by current residents and spend a week in the College undertaking a range of leadership activities, learning about post-school options and being exposed to university life. Some of these students have since returned as residents and are the first in their family to attend university![Director April 2013 - February 2014, Deputy Chair from February 2014 - November 2014, Chair from November 2014]

Intrust Super is a $1.2bn Industry Fund operating primarily in the hospitality space. Intrust offers a low-cost superannuation product that consistently delivers top quartile returns with a market-leading insurance offer attached. Intrust’s servicing model delivers more to employers and members than can be achieved by the bigger funds and the Fund offers financial planning through the 360 brand. Intrust has been a platinum rated fund for over 10 years running. While Peta was a Director of Intrust Super, and Chair of the Administration, Contract and Claims Committee, the fund was awarded Best Value Insurance in Super, an achievement hat the Fund worked hard to attain. A key focus on member outcomes and consistent review and adjustment meant that the Life Insurance, Income Protection and TPD coverage offered to members was exceptional and class-leading. Similarly, during this period, the fund’s ground-breaking member-education programme was recognised as Innovation of the Year by Super Ratings. Peta Chaired the Marketing Committee when the Fund was awarded the Super Savvy Award which related to the streamlined online processing option for employers and join-online for members.

The Queensland and Australian Hotels Associations represent the interests of accommodation hotels and pubs. The General Manager Accommodation has sole responsibility for the Accommodation Hotels; representing their interests to the State and Federal Governments and facilitating collaboration to support domestic and international tourism with the key objective of creating a vibrant and sustainable industry. Developing the General Manager role from scratch and working to set a strategic plan and vision, Peta’s role was a joint one, responsible for managing the administration of the Queensland and National Accommodation Divisions and reporting to two separate boards. Her Boards were made up of the General Managers of the major hotel chains along with those from boutique hotels and major resorts. Peta was recruited to provide expertise in government relations (lobbying and advocacy) and to develop a network of like-minded hoteliers who worked together on critical tourism initiatives. Developing a collaborative approach in what is a highly competitive sector was a key challenge but one which was achieved in the difficult operating environment at the time due to issues such as SARS, bed bugs, natural disasters and bird flu!

The Passenger Transport Division of Queensland Transport regulates and funds passenger transport services in Queensland. In her time with QT, Peta managed multi-disciplinary teams developing policy, overseeing legislative changes, monitoring regulatory compliance, negotiating service contracts with transport providers (including urban bus, long-distance bus, limousine and taxi booking services) and obtaining funding to support service enhancement. She also managed the taxi subsidy scheme which supports transport access for people with disabilities, expanding the service to recognise mental illness as a barrier to public transport usage. Working with regional officers in the delivery of services, Peta travelled around the state to meet with operators, consult on policy implementation and identify challenges and solutions. She established excellent relationships with operators and was able to maintain these despite the sometimes emotionally-charged contact negotiations which occurred. She managed budgets of up to $67M and teams of up to 23 in the various roles and was tagged as a trouble-shooter – taking on under-performing teams to ensure that they achieved their targets.
