As a part of the global, Horizon 2020-funded Geohex project, I have been researching how to optimize the heat transfer from brine to the working fluid in a geothermal plant. We use a custom rig (heat exchanger) to model the plant and are trying to find the optimal nano-coated plate to place between the two fluids. We work in teams to co-create innovative, implementable, and scalable solutions to the SDG's, and look to put them into action following the lab, while building a strong network of forward-thinking people. My team and I worked on SDG 7 (Clean and Affordable Energy) and proposed a solution to increase the robustness of the South African grid, which is prone to power outages.
