As a part of the global, Horizon 2020-funded Geohex project, I have been researching how to optimize the heat transfer from brine to the working fluid in a geothermal plant. We use a custom rig (heat exchanger) to model the plant and are trying to find the optimal nano-coated plate to place between the two fluids. I was selected as one of the thousand Global Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Talents from over 18,000 applicants from 165+ countries to participate in a fully-sponsored innovation lab in November 2019 in Shenzhen. We work in teams to co-create innovative, implementable, and scalable solutions to the SDG's, and look to put them into action following the lab, while building a strong network of forward-thinking people. My team and I worked on SDG 7 (Clean and Affordable Energy) and proposed a solution to increase the robustness of the South African grid, which is prone to power outages.

I worked in the research and development sector of Landsvirkjun, the national power company of Iceland, to research modern energy storage methods. The goal of the project was to investigate energy storage methods that would be feasible for Landsvirkjun with the potential installation of more variable renewable energy (VRE) systems, such as a wind farm.
