During my tenure with Payton he always put the well being of his crew first while never missing a beat with the mission at hand. I had the opportunity to serve with Payton for a few years during my time in the Navy. Although I didn’t get the chance to work with him directly, I was still able to see the amazing impact he had on both his sailors and the command. As one of the most respected officers onboard the ship, it was easy to see why his fellow sailors spoke so highly of him. Payton consistently demonstrated leadership qualities often seen in more senior officers. He has the confidence, calm demeanor, and motivation to lead any group of individuals put in front of him.
