Not only is Paul one of our lead code developers, he's also one of our lead technology integrators. Paul is efficient, precise, and cuts quickly to the heart of the problem. His work ethic is fantastic, and he's always looking to be challenged. Paul is a great engineer, and someone you want on your team.

Matthew Wereb

During Paul's time as an intern, he was eager to get involved and learn new things. He took to new challenges very well and in a short time was able to become a contributor to the team. He also was very personable and easy to work with. He worked very well with the rest of the team.

I joined ZEFR Data Science team to accelerate the inception to delivery process of our machine learning models. My proposal focused on transitioning away from Scala to Python (Pandas, scikit-learn, dask, dask-ml, LighGBM) as it more closely aligned with the skill sets the market has to offer.A primary driver to success was a well tested library developed alongside ZEFRs Principal Data Scientist for common data extraction, transformation, and featurizations problems. This improved our confidence in the correctness of models, greatly reduced code duplication throughout Jupyter notebooks, and allowed our Data Scientists more time on model R&D. I on-boarded two new hires and familiarize them with this process. Both of which were able to successfully develop a model in the first several weeks. One of which went on to run several millions of dollars of client spend and is on track for more. Show less

As a SRE I fostered a culture of collaboration, documentation, and open feedback by championing the RFC process (request for comment process). Several initiatives which I proposed and lead to adoption: Secret management, infrastructure as code, microservice deployment, consolidation of our cloud environments, and feature flag driven development. The SRE team and I acted as a mentors to help grow our engineering talent in the areas of continuous delivery, monitoring, alerting, distributed systems, secret management, API development, production debugging, and testing. My days consisted of jumping into various codebases (Python, Scala, Groovy, JavaScript, etc) throughout ZEFR to identify root causes of production degradations, fix critical critical bugs, implement performance improvements, simplify build jobs, and develop features. I became intimately familiar with our production Kafka environment and idententified fixes for several chronic instability issues. This resulted in less operational burden and increased system reliability. I provided the rest of engineering insight to our cloud infrastructure costs and identified cost saving measures which resulted in roughly $1.5M/year in savings. Show less
