Director of Learning Technology
-
Oct 2013 - Present
Initiated the “Always Learning Anywhere Initiative” to support the college’s first implementation of a student owned 1-to-1 technology programme. Worked closely with the college leadership team and Information and Learning Technology committee to develop a shared mindset to deliver the successful implementation of technology into learning. Working steadily with each teaching staff member participating in the Next PL Action Learning to model the mindset required to drive simple, flexible and reliable technology and workflows provided. To be an effective leader in this environment, I believe I needed to actively participate as a learner/teacher in helping the organisation improve. Working with the ILT Committee to identify learner focussed mind set, skillset and toolset strategies. Supporting a shift in the whole teaching cohort skillset requires empathy, political savvy, purposeful action, pressure and positive support, deliberative practice in class, and sustainable change – these actions support and deliver the management required to increase whole staff capacity. Set up an academic extension programme for 60 students called IT Angels. These students have been invaluable in supporting the ALAI and support of teacher/colleague capability and capacity building. Designed, developed and implemented 1:1 technology program trials with four classes using skills from successful teaching background and experience in planning, leading and management. Assisted with new learning workflows, procedures around management of school property, and the development of partnerships between the school and the parent community. The four five week trials included the hosting of two tours of the projects with parents, teachers and leaders from 14 other schools. These events included modelling inquiry based learning with technology in the classroom. Developed teachers pedagogies via whole-staff workshops, in situ coaching, team teaching and modelling teaching practice using technologies. Projects included a simulated WeatherTV station, eBook creation, app development pitching and business proposals, data visualisation and video advertisements. This role required successful experience in classroom teaching and leadership within a school setting. Responsible for the day-to-day organisation of learning technologies, deployment of new technologies and availability across the school and for the welfare of all students and staff in the usage of these tools. The role required personal strengths in strategic thinking, planning and management, the ability to quickly build positive relationships, and the ability to deal with complex issues and manage change. Enjoyed the experience and built upon personal research and theory in implementing change in student engagement with learning with technology and active engagement of staff and extended community.
