Building Operator Certification (BOC) is a competency-based training and certification for building operators offering improved job skills. Operators earn certification by attending training classes on a variety of topics, including facility electrical and lighting systems, HVAC, indoor air quality, sustainability, and energy conservation. Paul Wingco, CEM, MBA has over thirty years of combined experience in facilities operations and energy management. He began his career as a controls specialist in the US Air Force and also served in the California Air National Guard. Since then he has been active in the field of building energy management systems, mechanical and engineering services, central plant operations, utility and energy metering, retro-commissioning and facility operations and energy management in the higher education field for the last twenty five years. His past working titles include manager of engineering services, campus energy manager, sustainability manager and now currently serves as Interim Director of Facilities Management for California State University, Long Beach. His current responsibilities include the management and operations of campus facilities and grounds, energy management and utility operations, clean energy and climate action planning and implementation at CSULB. Paul earned his BS degree in Construction Engineering Management from CSU Long Beach and has a Masters in Business Administration from Vanguard University of Southern California. Paul is a practicing instructor for the Building Operator Certification (BOC) program, is a regular speaker on energy efficiency matters and is a Certified Energy Manager with the Association of Energy Engineers.
