I'd like to take this opportunity to endorse Paul White, who I had in my communication research methods class in the fall of 2010. This course is a requirement for Communication majors and considered one of the more challenging courses in the department. Paul worked very hard in the class and impressed me with his interest in gaining both a good understanding of the course content and practical skills that he can apply in a variety of professional roles. The course focuses heavily around a project where students work through the process of planning a research proposal. Students identify a research question, develop a strategy and method to investigate the question, and a plan for how to analyze data to arrive at findings toward the question. Many in the class 'go through the motions' of the project, but Paul used the project to put what he was learning to use and took feedback seriously in order to improve his final product. He put in a great deal of effort and demonstrated great strength in his analytical and critical thinking skills. I think Paul is a very bright, dedicated, and engaging individual with knowledge, skills, and abilities that will allow him to offer a great deal to his future employer and those with whom he works. Surprenant Masonry specializes in concrete, block, brick and stone for commercial builders in southeastern Wisconsin. Some of the highly recognized builders of southeastern Wisconsin Surprenant Masonry provides their services for includes: Bielinski Homes, Rob Miller Homes, Westridge Builders As a laborer, it is my job to arrive at the shop to load the necessary materials for that particular job; including loading and securing skid-loader to then tow with a 1 ton dump truck or diesel ford pick-up. After arriving at the job-site, before the mason's arrive (7:00 am) it is my responsibility to have everything prepared, so upon there arrival they can immediately start laying stone, brick etc. At no point during the day should the mason's be waiting on me, as it is my job to always keep the job progressing without unnecessary delay. I started working summers and winters for Todd in high school and continued doing so through college. I've been back full-time for Todd since August of 2012. Over the years I've progressed from a laborer to a mason, and now I'm even assisting my boss with project management aspects such as: scheduling, ordering materials, assigning employees to different projects based on their experience, and communicating with general contractors and home-owners to accomodate to any changes or concerns they may have. Over the few months I worked at Brickman Group in the snow removal unit I was assigned an industrial park off Bluemound responsible for the snow removal of 10-12 restaurants, corporate offices, and local businesses. Overlooked a crew of 2-4 employees. I was assigned my own work truck, which I loaded the necessary equipment and materials for each of the employees assigned to me on a given day. Kept record of materials used and reported to my supervisor to ensure we never ran out of materials. Ran skid-loader with snow removal attachments as well as utility vehicle's with a plow and salt spreader on the rear. Show less
