  Gained valuable knowledge and experience in project management with different methodology of ways of working whilst on secondment to a new Transformation Team within ABP to change the way we work. Gathered the requirements from all 21 ports and 3 satellite hubs and positively presented the vision to all audiences across the business including ABP's owners.Delivered an Operations pilot solution which helped understand the complexity of introducing a digital platform into the Operations Dept for ABP using SAP platforms.Technology developed in partnership with Leogistics Yard management software (SAP partner) and mobile devices. All development was done via web dynpro and fiori applications to enhance the user experience.Business processes covered: Warehouse Management, Resource Planning, Yard Management, Vessel Planning/Scheduling, Quayside Operations, Customer Portal and Safety Compliance.The pilot has clarified the future vision for operations within ABP as well as providing valuable lessons learnt.

  Deputy Operations Manager for the five ABP South Wales Ports undertaking commercial, budgetary, compliance as well as many other aspects in this varied role, including the planning of and full responsibility for the complexities of safely handling military stores for various governments. Responsible for the day to day activities and safety of a team of approx. 100 + Operational staff.Heavilly involved in man management and negotiation with internal and external parties including negotiation with local Trade Union representatives.Delivered cost savings and efficiencies across the region including changes to 'the way we work' as well as contract labour negotiation. Whilst in this role I successfully gained ABP South Wales various accreditation's including ISO 9001, TASSC, Organic Food Federation, Environmental permits plus many more which I then administered. Regularly standing in for the Operations Manager to represent the department at senior management level.

• Metrics Manager (Secondment)

  Whilst retaining my Operations Manager role I was also seconded to ABP Head Office to look into ways to put some workable standard Operations metrics into the department. The aim of the project was to map all of the different operations we were undertaking at our 21 ports, analyse existing monitoring formats and formalise a standard template to measure performance against customer or internal SLA's nationally.This project was completed successfully and was the precursor to many subsequent metrics evaluations now undertaken within the company.

• Regional Operations Superintendent

  Operations Superintendent role for the five ABP South Wales Ports. Responsibility for a large diverse team of both permanent employees and contracted stevedores handling around 2 million tonnes pa of bulk cargo, break bulks and road/rail traffic logistics. Regularly deputising for the Operations Manager South Wales to ensure safety compliance and customer satisfaction levels were maintained.

  After serving a secondment period the position was made permanent and I took control of a small operations team offering direct stevedore services of both human and equipment resources as well as outsourcing. Other duties included overall port operations compliance monitoring the Stevedore activities of port tenants at the Port of Cardiff and Barry.

It was whilst in this role the company transitioned from a nationalised to private company representing significant change to working practices which I successfully adapted to giving me greater opportunities to progress within the new company structure.
