Public safety chaplaincy is understood as the work of providing pastoral care and support to employees of first responder agencies and their families, as well as to victims of related public safety incidents. This full time position is designated by the Sheriff to be a person who experiences a call to this particular ministry of service and sacrifice, offering themselves as a source of support to women and men (Sworn and Non-Sworn) whose daily work is often stressful and rigorous, both emotionally, mentally, and physically. This position provides counseling and analytical services for the Sheriff’s Department. The Chaplain must be familiar with current laws and regulations which pertain to being a deputy sheriff and must be conversant in explaining those rules, regulations and rights. This position must maintain a high degree of confidentiality and respond to calls when necessary.
