Village to Village is an early 2016 snapshot of the arrival and first 6 month experiences of a cadre of Syrian students and the peace worker who brought them to Mexico - as they redefine education advocacy. The students arrived as part of Proyecto Habesha, a burgeoning non-profit created by Adrián Meléndez and sponsored by the UNHCR. As of 2023, this movement has grown to become a multi-faceted international education relief network supporting nearly 100 students in Mexico, alone. The initial goal was to provide higher education and leadership skills to a select group of 30 Syrian students in Mexico so they can return home as leaders in their nation’s rebuilding process. As they were accepted into universities throughout Mexico their paths diverged and new missions continue to sprout from this same seed of dynamic young people. I worked with Adrián Meléndez, Mame Diene, and Paula Montes throughout 2016-2017 to provide early fundraising media production support and help with the initial establishment of the first 30 students In Aguascalientes and Mexico City. In collaborations with Deaf Dogs of Oregon I produced and edited a film about animal activist/dog trainer Chelsea and her dog Picasso. Chelsea discovers that Picasso is deaf, but instead of giving up, she learns to communicate with him - and in turn - starts a movement. This film is a touching exploration of how determination and love leads to better understanding. 2019-2020 Bow Wow Film Festival Official Selection | 53 screenings nationwide In collaborations with Deaf Dogs of Oregon I produced and edited a film about animal activist/dog trainer Chelsea and her dog Picasso.
