Working as a field research assistant on a collaborative research project between the University of Potsdam and Trinity College Dublin. The project, entitled 'Behavioral Adaptations to Biological Invasions', looked to understand the variability in individual behavioral traits of the invasive bank vole (Myodes glareolus) and how these traits may impact their competitiveness with native Irish wood mice (Apodemus sylvaticus). Field work involved planning and mapping of sampling area, preparation and setting of non-fatal traps, rodent handling, physiological assessments (sex, breeding condition, weight) and behavioral analysis through an on-site behaviour test. Additional skills developed included in-field data collection and post-field work data logging/digitization, use of motion sensing camera traps and collection of hair, fecal and floral samples for isotope analysis. https://www.uni-potsdam.de/en/ibb-tieroekologie/research-animal-ecology/behavioural-adaptations-to-invasion-processes Show less
