  Senior member of DPTI Pavements Engineering Group. This group provides expert pavement engineering services to the entire Department and, as such, the roles, responsibilities and tasks are considerable and varied. They include pavement design, rehabilitation, construction, maintenance, specification, planning and R&D activities at both a project and network level. These functions are provided across South Australia in rural and urban locations, encompassing a wide range of project scopes, goals, budgets & environmental conditions, from small works to major design & construct projects costing hundreds of millions of dollars. The role requires a thorough understanding of pavement technology, encompassing design standards, analytical methods, field & laboratory testing of pavements and soils, pavement materials, stabilization technology, pavement performance, construction technology & specifications. It also involves management tasks, such as participating in planning & strategic activities and ensuring delivery of technical reports prepared by junior staff for ongoing works programs.Significant training experience, including presenting at formal DPTI training courses, as well as at external providers like the Centre for Pavement Engineering Education. Contract management experience includes tender brief preparation & evaluation, managing the budget and ensuring quality of deliverables on large pavement & geotechnical investigations undertaken by engineering consultants. Also regularly involved in contractual issues on large D&Cs.Pavement Group's computing expert, responsible for pavement design software, macros & spreadsheets.

  Full time employment as a Geotechnical Engineer. Undertook numerous geotechnical investigations, including scoping, planning and bidding in competitive tender for works; undertaking the investigation, interpreting results, engineering analyses and preparing technical reports. Field investigation techniques included subsurface investigations (boreholes, test pits, cut face logging etc) with insitu testing (e.g. SPT, DCP), sampling & groundwater well installation; electric friction cone, Marchetti dilatometer & piezocone.
