Bio
Norman Cotterell
I have known Paul Kawkabany since April of 2022, having served as his clinical supervisor at the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavior Therapy from April 20 to June 8 2022 . We met once or twice a week via Zoom to discuss his initial conceptualizations of clients’ problems, suggest therapeutic techniques, practice tools, and clarify treatment plans. I've listened, rated, and discussed with him full sessions of his therapeutic work. He met the full responsibilities for supervision in our program by attending our online workshops, writing reports, recording sessions, and assessing his performance using the Cognitive Therapy Rating Scale (CTRS). I am quite familiar with his clinical and interpersonal skills. Paul is a joy to work with. He is intelligent, eager to learn, curious, and focused in his clinical work. He is passionate in his desire to expand upon his skills. He is empathic and supportive and validating with clients, understanding their pain, accepting their emotions, and guiding them towards empowering cognitive shifts that expand their options and flexibility. He is superb in his use of feedback and guided discovery, displaying creativity and consistency in his work. Over the course of our contacts, he became even more adept in conceptualizing client’s core beliefs and assumptions, developing strategies based on his conceptualizations, and implementing those strategies. As a professional, Paul is upbeat, fully engaged, and punctual. He is enthusiastic in supervision, and quite willing to put suggestions into practice. He is willing to review recorded sessions, analyze progress, and extend the scope of his therapeutic skills. He has been a pleasure to work with.
