Paul came to work for me in the Installations Complex Fabrications team at a very demanding time in the Trent 7000 programme, he became a valuable and key member of the team, grasping the pace of the project very quickly and demonstrating strong project management and leadership qualities which is something that the engineering team lacked the capacity of. He had a strong comprehension of the complex technological design problems that the team where facing and was able to zone in to the key critical areas within the mass of information around him to pull together a sound and credible engineering plan. He did this despite not having the deep understanding of some of the technology and design features around him, but this never fazed him as he rapidly sought out the knowledge to use this to his teams advantage. He was able to convey any information required in a clear, concise and unambiguous manner to those who he worked with to ensure his teams had the greatest chance of success. I found Paul to be a very conscientious member of the team with a caring attitude that certainly motivated those he worked with to achieve to their full potential. He would always strive to demonstrate excellence in all he did. I found his organisation skills to be very strong, he is a logical thinker, but also creative in some of the solutions he came up with. There were many challenges he faced during his time working for me and he never once shied away from a difficult time, moment or encounter as he threw all of his effort in to find a way forward. He is a team member you will trust to deliver excellence.

I have known Paul professionally and personally for a number of years now. Throughout this time, Paul has been there to give exceptional advice on my career based on his smorgasbord of Project and Engineering experience of the Nuclear, Energy and Aerospace industries. I would wholeheartedly recommend Paul to a prospective employer, who has a stake in projects and/or programmes within the aforementioned industries. Paul has the skills, knowledge and hunger for solving problems whilst also coaching and mentoring younger individuals who are in the earlier stages of their career, in order for them to be the best they can be.

Stress Engineer within Rolls-Royce Marine. My primary responsibility was to conduct structural analyses of metallic components. This was performed by a variety of methods; using finite elements in ABAQUS applying user sub-routines in FORTRAN, linear elastic calculation schemes developed in Mathcad, results analysis in Excel and "old school" SDOF and linear analyses using pencil, paper and calculator. In this role I gained experience both of specification and development of new plant designs and of design for manufacture. These tasks required cross-functional working with interdependant functions of the business. At times my role required assisting the Chief Engineer in company design reviews. I was also a guest speaker at the 2008 ygn seminar delivering a presentation on Submarine Propulsion with a Rolls-Royce colleague.

This role involved the application of six sigma and lean design techniques to redevelop, improve and optimise existing manufacturing processes. In December of 2005, I migrated to the Engineering Support function as a Manufacturing Engineer where i was responsible as Component Owner for the fabrication and construction of 3 types of pressure vessel. During my time at Rolls-Royce I undertook Rolls-Royce Green Belt training in six sigma techniques.

In 2004, i was engaged with the Planning Department where i was involved in applying six sigma and lean principles to the function of the department. In 2003, i was employed in the Compressor Blade Cell where my remit was to reconfigure the shop floor layout in accordance with the principles of lean design. In 2002, i was employed on the Pegasus project where i conducted an investigation into the additional cost of rework of engines contaminated with oil.
