  I am privileged to serve as a non-executive director on the Board of the SEA LIFE Trust, which works globally to protect the world’s oceans and marine life. My remit with the Trust also includes chairing its Audit committee.   I was initially appointed as interim Group Financial Controller, and in that role accountability lay with me for elements including Group reporting, FP&A, and the management of tax, treasury and finance systems. I then subsequently took up a substantive role, holding further responsibilities for the Resort Theme Park group comprising Alton Towers, Thorpe park, Chessington World of Adventure, Warwick castle, Heide park and Gardaland.

  I was pleased in this capacity to have the opportunity to embed best practice in the organisation’s financial management culture and control environment, and ensure that processes for capital expenditure approval and revenue planning were robust and integrated across the business. In a similar vein, my company-wide cost review resulted in a gap closure exercise to strengthen year-end results. Specific achievements included leading negotiation of Flybe’s defined benefit pension scheme valuation; steering implementation of a new Finance ERP; and modernising the pay and reward structure. Operationally, I directed all aspects of the technical finance function, ranging from accounts payable and receivable, payroll, tax, insurance, treasury and cash management, as well as consolidation of accounts and annual report generation. My role also encompassed managing relationships with external auditors and investors.

  I held a range of progressively senior roles with BA, holding accountability for financial performance of operations at 159 airports around the world. As part of this, I strengthened operational robustness by leading negotiations with CAA in relation to regulated pricing; agreeing a pay deal and overhauling pilot rostering processes; and identifying cost savings through synergising procurement activity. I was invited to assume responsibility for Heathrow airport’s financial performance, and I oversaw process flow costing methods to underpin structural change to operations, which improved efficiency and increased customer feedback scores. I was pleased too to be elected Chairman of the Non-regulated Charges Group for Heathrow Airport Operators’ Committee.
