      Upon re-joining BR in 1974 (having been employed between 1972 - 1973) I was recruited into the (then) new TOPS freight system. I gained experience of freight operations and Rules & Regulations. My first supervisory post came in 1979 as a Traffic Controller and Signalbox supervisor (for which I was also passed to work), followed by further appointments as a Traffic Inspector overseeing engineering work, Station Management posts at Bedford, Luton and St Albans and internal trainer for staff when the Midland Suburban Electrification scheme was being introduced. These were followed by periods as both a supervisor and manager at West Hampstead PSB, Chief Movements Inspector and Engineering Planner at St Pancras before taking a 'career change' into the Thameslink Programme.
