Studied at The University of Leeds on a Fully Funded International Student Scholarship. My Doctoral dissertation examines the use of popular song in English Renaissance drama. Song was the most popular and ubiquitous form of entertainment in England during the time of the great playwrights, yet its impact on the drama, beyond Shakespeare, is largely unknown. For this project, I have read over one hundred of the most ‘musical’ plays written between 1580 and 1623 and researched and documented… Show more Studied at The University of Leeds on a Fully Funded International Student Scholarship. Post Graduate Researcher, Osborne Project
-
Sep 2007 - Jun 2009
During my MA I worked as a student researcher for the University of Calgary's Osborne Project, an interdisciplinary group of scholars examining three unpublished anonymous seventeenth-century manuscript plays. My engagement with this group afforded me a wealth of scholarly experience in areas such as archival research, paleography, codicology, conference presentations and humanities computing. Much of the project's research, including a scholarly edition of the play 'The Humorous Magistrate'… Show more During my MA I worked as a student researcher for the University of Calgary's Osborne Project, an interdisciplinary group of scholars examining three unpublished anonymous seventeenth-century manuscript plays. Much of the project's research, including a scholarly edition of the play 'The Humorous Magistrate', is featured in a special issue of the peer-reviewed journal, Early Theatre 14.2 (2011). I have contributed to this issue an article entitled 'Imported Popular Song in The Humorous Magistrate'. Professional Bassist
-
Jan 1993 - Jan 2009
For fifteen years I worked as a professional electric bassist backing up a number of very successful recording artists. I have performed all over Canada, the United States and in Europe in every kind of playing space imaginable. Additionally, I have 4 years of classical training in voice and have played the acoustic guitar seriously for well over a decade. In 2000 I wrote and produced my own independent CD, and I continue to write, record and perform when time allows. Voice Coach
-
Jan 2006 - Sep 2008
For three years I worked evenings as a voice coach at a small music school south of Calgary. This was a very enjoyable time for me, for I have much experience not only in the training and use of the voice but also in the music business. These two knowledge streams provided me with real-world tools to help young people negotiate the anxieties that come with singing, performance and the entertainment industry circus. There is simply no substitute for helping a kid do something that seems tough… Show more For three years I worked evenings as a voice coach at a small music school south of Calgary.
