The Big Blue Diving Internship teaches you and awful lot about the oceans very quickly. During my time at Big Blue I accumulated over 60 dives and completed various SSI diving courses (Deep Dive, Nitrox, React Right First Aid, Shark Ecology and the BSAC Conservation Course). As an Eco internship the diving was often focused on either underwater surveys of both coral and wildlife, beach and underwater clean ups, and on maintaining the artificial reef. As part of the internship I was required to choose a personal project, with which I decided to build and sink an artificial reef structure. Show less

    • Team Leader for the Travel Team
      • Mar 2015 - Apr 2017

I was responsible for a small team of travelling fund raisers. My roles included but were not limited to: target management, training/coaching, travel plans and liaising with the main office. My team and I were very successful at our targets and aided the spread of information country wide. The focus was not only on raiding funds but also on the accurate delivery of facts and updates regarding some of the biggest environmental issues nationally and internationally. • Carnivore keeper intern/volunteer
      • Sep 2014 - Dec 2016

During my six month internship I became a fully functioning member of the carnivore team, being able to carry out tasks individually and as a team. I was fortunate enough to work with a highly motivated, dynamic and dedicated team that was focused on achieving the best welfare state for all of the animals in their care. My role in the team developed greatly, and I have developed a greater knowledge and skill set over my time within the zoo. This included but was not limited to: food preparation, behavioural/medical observations, providing enrichment, and conducting public encounters. There were a range of animals that I helped care for in the zoo including: Sumatran Tigers, Red Pandas, Meerkats, African Lions, Porcupine, Serval, and Short-clawed Asian Otters. I was also lucky enough to continue volunteering at Auckland Zoo after my internship finished. Show less
