Worked as a Quantity Surveyor in the New Homes Silo for Hawkins Construction on the Canterbury Recovery Project in Christchurch. The projects client IAG (Insurance Australia Group) has engaged Christchurch based Hawkins Construction to provide building management expertise for claims as a result of the Canterbury earthquakes. Under this partnership Hawkins is responsible for the entire reinstatement process – from selecting builders, cost planning and advice, through to organising final inspections, ensuring compliance throughout and ultimately ensuring the smooth running of each individual project. In this role with Hawkins I was responsible for: - Management of the pricing on projects from when scope of works has been agreed right through to practical completion and final account. - Laising with the project managers to ensure the scope of works is an accurate reflection of the work required to complete the new home. - Ensuring the works is all correctly priced in accordance with the schedule of IAG approved rates. - Successfully managing multiple concurrent projects - Processing pre-construction costs for projects and ensuring there is approval for payment - Processing final accounts and agreeing these with the builder - Communicating with Loss Adjustors to ensure the client is receiving quality assured work at current market rates within the rebuild budget and also within time frame. - Preparing and agreeing variations with the loss adjusters and sub contractors. - Contract administration - Processing progress payments/milestones payments - Attending regular meetings with builders to discuss progress and settle any disputes.
