This is typically referred to as CI/CD, or Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment. The role of the SRE is to assist in the automation of this pipeline, from start to finish, attempting to remove any bottlenecks wherever possible, and automate any daily repetitive tasks. Once code has been deployed into production, it then becomes the role of the SRE to automate the task of gathering metrics from the system and services running on it, and build alerts which contact the appropriate individuals when an event occurs. At SupplyPike much of my role included the tasks described above. I helped install, configure, and administer their Kubernetes clusters, which included managing their AWS infrastructure as code using Terraform. I also helped build, and manage their software deployment pipelines. Once the applications were deployed I would gather metrics, and build alerts for any issues that might occur. If an alert did occur then I would help the developers debug and diagnose the issues. In addition to that, I would automate any daily repetitive tasks, as needed. Show less
