Workshop Facilitator/Job Search Coach
-
2006 - 2010
This position gave me the opportunity to be part of a dynamic and diverse team that started a job finding program. From grass roots we were challenged with developing a new 3 week curriculum, which once completed gave clients the confidence to job search on their own. On a daily basis I conducted one on one coaching sessions with workshop participants to help with upcoming interviewers, general confidence and provided information to other services for a variety of issues such as; abuse issues, poverty, depression or anxiety about being new to Canada, helped them to settle and find work. Part of the curriculum was a segment using personality type assessment tools to examine which occupation best fit with a client’s abilities, interests, and personality; this helped them determine the direction of their job search. Finally, my case management and outreach skills were demonstrated by compiling monthly statistics with regard to coaching sessions, program completion, follow ups on past participants’ employment status in order to send updated reports to our funder. I also increased awareness in the business sector of employment issues faced by youth and new immigrants and conducted outreach to connect with the business community and arranged for employer hiring events.
