Patrick is one of those strange individuals who speaks both customer and developer and can translate between the two. Simply put, he understands business and understands technology. He can tease requirements out of requesters who don't fully understand their own needs, steer them down a better path when warranted, or even talk them off the ledge entirely. As a software engineer, I always look forward to working on projects when Patrick supplies the requirements. His requirement docs and functional specifications are top-notch. He has a rare ability to get it right the first time yet is able to quickly adapt to changing business objectives and needs. I don't always code off of documented specs, but when I do I prefer they come from Patrick.

I've had the pleasure of being a member of Patrick's team for the last two years. He's an absolutely fantastic manager in every way one could want. He does a great job of connecting with his teammates to drive productivity and morale in an unbelievably difficult environment. His door is always open, he always sticks up for his teammates, and he's not afraid to be honest and open about anything you ask him. His analytic skills are off the charts - he takes the most vague of requirements and doggedly works with both the stakeholders and technical team to forge the best solution to every problem and he does it with impressive efficiency. Patrick is truly a huge asset to the team and I shudder to think where we'd be without him.
