Industrial Placement working within the data science, informatics, process modelling and engineering technology groups. Responsibilities included: - Design of supervised and unsupervised machine-learning models for drug product manufacturing processes using python (data analysis, data wrangling, model investigation, model evaluation). - Hyperparameter tuning to improve machine-learning performance (Bayesian Optimisation, grid search and randomized grid search). - Dataset feature engineering to improve machine-learning performance. - Back-end software engineering to develop an interface to integrate a python machine-learning model into a gPROMs mechanistic model (object-oriented programming, code abstraction and interlinking 5 different classes in different scripts to produce the interface). - Front-end software engineering to produce a user interface for colleagues to use integrated machine-learning and mechanistic model interface (dropdown menus, buttons, value fields). - Designed a relational MySQL database, composing of 6 tables, to house simulation inputs, outputs and metadata. Then programmatically integrating it into the interface front-end and back-end (mysql-connector and SQLAlchemy). - Use of Git for version-control (committing, pushing, pulling, branching and merging). - Produced data capture solutions for the structured and standardized capture of laboratory data before transportation to Redshift database, ensuring data integrity. - Chaired and organized the monthly digital forum meeting for 70 colleagues around the globe, hosting talks on data science, data engineering and informatics topics. - Co-authored a proposal for physics-informed AI neural-networks for drug product manufacturing. - Participated in a Social Impact project to work on a marketing campaign for a local charity, to increase volunteer recruitment.
