Patrick is a highly qualified data scientist. He recently completed the Data Science Immersive course at General Assembly (GA), and he performed so well as a student that GA asked him to serve as an instructor. Although I never worked with Patrick on any data science-related projects in an official capacity, he did consult with me informally on several projects throughout the summer. During that time, I was blown away both by Patrick’s natural ability to think critically and challenge the status quo and also by the ease with which he mastered new statistical concepts and coding techniques, including Python, SQL, Scikit-Learn, Kera, Scala, and TensorFlow. From my ten years of working with Patrick in various capacities, I also know that he is hardworking and ambitious. I would highly recommend any data science team hire Patrick, because he is a quick learner, critical thinker, hard working, and ambitious. *Quick Learner* Patrick had no coding experience prior to beginning the GA course, yet within a few weeks he was teaching me material I’d never encountered in my six years as a computer science Ph.D. candidate at Princeton or my four years as a computer science and math double major at Williams College. *Critical Thinker* Over the years that I’ve known Patrick, we’ve had many conversations during which he guided me to critically examine my previously established beliefs by asking insightful questions. When I push back with my own challenges to his ideas, we end up having productive discussions during which we both gain a new perspective on the topic at hand. *Hard Working/Dedicated* While coaching college track and cross country full time, Patrick regularly ran multiple practices per day and spent countless additional hours at the office. Over several months of working with Patrick he has demonstrated an uncommon level of competence, commitment, and problem-solving ability, as well as noteworthy interpersonal skills and leadership qualities. Patrick is among the most motivated students I've had the pleasure of teaching. I am confident he will continue to succeed as a professional data scientist, and will make important contributions wherever he ends up in the next phase of his career.

Data Scientist Lead Instructor
-
Mar 2020 - Jan 2022
As lead instructor of Data Science at General Assembly, I teach complex topics in data science and machine learning. I design and teach lessons to a full-time (40 hours per week) Data Science Immersive course that last 12-14 weeks. Students are taught Python, SQL, Scala/Spark, Tensor Flow, HTML and more. Topics range from classification and regression modeling, time series data forecasting, NLP, API Integration, to building dashboards using Flask. The material I teach also goes in depth to explore content in Statistics such as probability distributions, hypothesis testing, A/B testing, confidence intervals and the Central Limit Theorem. Students are assessed with quizzes, labs, projects, written work, and a final capstone project. I work with a team of Instructors and Instructional Associates to design curriculum, asses student work, and give thoughtful and meaningful feedback. My work helps prepare adult learners to enter the job market and make a successful career upgrade or transition in a competitive job marketplace. Show less
