Studying antibiotic resistance mechanisms in bacteria isolated from the soil. Specifically interested in mechanisms by which bacteria can subsist on antibiotics as a sole carbon source therefore allowing not only antibiotic resistance but increased growth in the presence of antibiotics. Using transposon mutagenesis genes will be randomly knocked out and then growth on antibiotic will be assayed therefore determining mechanisms from the loss of function mutants.
