Deckhand
-
Mar 2016 - Aug 2016
A deckhand on a traditional sailing vessels responsibilities revolve around their ability to perform three overarching tasks as an individual and as a member of a team. To hand, this means to handle lines, gear, and perform maintenance. To reef, refers to the controlling of the ships sails and sheets, and as needed shorten sail. Finally to steer, to be at the helm to steer the boat while standing watch and docking the ship. Public relations play a major role in the ships mission, as a crew member I act as a representative of the ship on daysails, deck tours, private receptions and events. Additionally as a senior deckhand I manage the ships store, a position often called the purser I oversaw the ships retail inventory as well as accounting. I also am an active admin for some of the ships social media accounts including the ships Instagram. Show less
