I highly recommend Patricia Whitener for any position within any organization. Her exemplary service to Clemson University, the surrounding community, and the environment has been an example for others to follow. Patricia is a highly motivated, energetic self-starter who makes her visions come to life. I had the pleasure of working with her through the conception, organization, and implementation phases of multiple events. First, Picture Green: an art show and forum celebrating sustainability 2010. Patricia was a key person in the formulation and realization of this event which was three fold. Simultaneously, there were speakers throughout the day, a film series, and an art show. All these were meant to lure students and the community in to educate them about sustainability. Patricia not only helped with recruiting and marketing the event, she also partnered with the local schools. Her efforts contributed to over 200 local schools students and teachers attending the event. More poignant was Patricia’s leadership in organizing Clemson's Earth Day: The State Fair of Sustainability 2010 and 2011. She turned this event from just a couple of tables in 2009 into a dynamic festival with multiple vendors, educational booths, and over 700 participants (in 2011). Patricia’s drive and personal vision created strategic alliances with organizations such as: Coca-Cola, Clemson Live, Clemson Recycling, and others. Additionally, she showed her business savvy through budget planning, marketing, and staff scheduling. Further, she recruited students that learned from her leadership how to make this event continue long after she has graduated. Ultimately, it took countless of hours and an insanely high level of dedication to make the event successful and cultivate new leaders. Patricia has worked tirelessly on multiple other events too. For instance, Farm Aid: raising funds for Clemson’s Student Organic Farm, working the farm itself, the National Teach-in, and several others. Undoubtedly, Patricia will continue to work hard making the world a better place.

http://www.duke-energy.com/visitor-centers/bad-creek-outdoor-classroom.asp The Bad Creek Outdoor Classroom is a unique addition to the hydroelectric station’s rustic setting. Student visitors can learn about the environment and how Duke Energy generates electricity. Located in a small clearing, the classroom’s covered area, tables and benches give students and teachers an opportunity to experience the region’s wildlife and ecosystems. Two nature trails take full advantage of the opportunities presented by this natural forest community. . Show less
