An ambitious project for Limerick I was delighted to come on board this small but powerful team. The people of Limerick are innovative and exciting to work for and with. There was literally never a dull moment and to date I have never enjoyed a job more than this one. Over 4 months work while navigating feasibility and business plans a successful path to an online presence for this start-up Food School was charted. The website design, fb, instagram and twitter pages were my remit. www.limerickfoodprofessionals.com Over 6 months networking led to support and funding from Limerick County Council, the Local Enterprise offices and the Limerick Chamber. A very healthy and collaborative entente with the French Consul to Limerick was another enjoyable aspect of this job. The Transition Year Program, whetting young students appetite for learning was launched under my direction and a successful start was made at schools in Limerick and surrounds. A future collaboration was planned under my initiative with other top Limerick chefs. Limerick Food Professionals helped me hone skills and learn many new ones. I look forward now to furthering this career path in the green tech area. Show less

After almost 19 years working and living in Paris, Berlin and Fribourg, Switzerland I returned home to Tipperary, Ireland in January 2018 to my native town of Templemore to live with my 15 and 9 year old daughters. As we settled into our new lives I took some time to create a business idea for children in some local primary schools. Using music, rhythms, rhymes, drama and fun facts to teach multi-languages to primary school children. Paudie the Polyglot made a welcome reappearance during this time. The lessons were gratefully received and the feedback was excellent but lucrative employment beckoned in Limerick and so this language learning hub was put on ice. To be continued ... Show less

My greatest work achievement to date: training in and investing in the Helen Doron franchise and becoming my own boss for the first time. I operated a fully functioning, entrepreneurial school with 40+ students weekly for the full academic year. Some of my earlier students starting with me as babies in their mothers arms could by their 3rd year speak to me in English - albeit with a slight Tipperary accent! This is to illustrate how effective this teaching method is. Helen Doron English taught me more about my personal work ethic and stability than any employer ever could have. When you are the boss and the buck stops with you, there is no "not being able"! You just do! And do well as it is your reputation on the line. I am very grateful to Helen Doron for creating this now world renowned franchise, winner of Best Global Franchise Awards in the category of children's education, 2019. She, like me, found herself in a strange country wanting to teach English in a fun and effective way and she created a marvellous machine that 30 years later I was able to take full advantage of. I want to see her franchise take its place in Ireland teaching all the newly arrived young refugees and foreign nationals who need help learning our language before they integrate school. I would be happy to be Ireland's Master Franchisor for those purposes! Show less

Working in a Swiss school was a wonderful experience, even part-time and even in the after-hours when school books are tidied away. Integrating a large team I was in charge of the after-school care of primary school children ranging in ages from 4 to 12. It was a very disciplined and yet creative school. The art that the children produced was always to a very high standard and they loved when I "slipped" into my native English to teach them a song or a joke in English. Swiss children are a joy to teach and learn with. My colleagues were dedicated, kind and professional in every way. I feel lucky to have had this work experience. Show less

Kindergarten Villa Ritz

English Lehrerin

Sep 2007 - Jan 2010
At it's opening I was the sole native speaking Kindergarten teacher for the wonderful Villa Ritz Kindergarten Potsdam. It was an honour to be asked by the group leader at the time, Frau Noi, to lead an individual group but also to be responsible for the English content of the whole school. The Villa Ritz was quite unique at that time in it's selling point as a high-end, bilingual kindergarten. German and English. Renovated to brand new this protected, historic villa boasted fresh organic food prepared daily by our chef, an indoor swimming pool and our very own music teacher animating all of the schools morning and afternoon circles and the many events social events that took place. This role was a wonderful opportunity for me as my German was non-existent at that time; I like to say I learned German at Kindergarten! To this day I have nothing but fond memories of this extraordinary villa and of all the people, big and small that I knew there. My second daughter was born towards the end of my time in Germany. I only wish we had been able to stay long enough for her to come and try the pool one day! But Switzerland was calling us away. Danke Villa Ritz for some of the best experiences in my life. Show less
