I had the pleasure of working at New Haven Promise as the Events & Program Coordinator for the summer. I have been unbelievably lucky to have had the opportunity to work at such an impactful organization and be a part of such a stellar team. Patricia's guidance, patience, and feedback along the way was unparalleled. The culture of the office is phenomenal and I have learned so much from being surrounded by such committed people. I really couldn't have asked for a more engaging, stimulating and dynamic internship experience. The skills and perspective I've gained this summer are invaluable. Interacting with Promise scholars, their families, and other community members has been a definite highlight of my summer and has helped me understand the value that Promise, and Patricia, adds to the Greater New Haven Community.

Few people have had the opportunity to report to an Executive Director who is a mentor and a coach – but when I began working for Patricia Melton, the Executive Director of New Haven Promise, I got that opportunity. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Patricia as the Program Assistant at New Haven Promise for nearly 2 years now (December, 2013). This position has given me an array of opportunities and infinite room for growth, which is one of the goals of Promise. As Program Assistant for an organization like New Haven Promise, it has allowed me to be prepared to enter a very competitive career marketplace with a strong set of skills. As a New Haven Promise scholar and now campus Ambassador at Albertus Magnus College, I have benefited from Patricia’s vision and leadership. Patricia has various important traits that I believe an effective leader must have. Patricia knows how to manage failure and setbacks. She follows her intuition and displays confidence in all that she does. Patricia commands a following and gets people on board and has made Promise the leading College Access program for students in the city if not the state of Connecticut. Patricia can juggle multiple projects and roles all of which have increased the productivity and impact of Promise. Additionally, Patricia has expanded New Haven Promise from citywide to statewide and now to national prominence. She can handle the toughest situations effortlessly and stays on track with big goals. Patricia is selfless and is not afraid to make tough decisions in building a supportive organization for students on their developmental trajectory. Patricia has it all - ambition, leadership, a positive attitude and most importantly, the results to deliver impact that is transformational in everything she does. She has been an ideal leader for New Haven Promise and will be an asset in her next position wherever that may be. If you want big results, Patricia is the right person for the job!
