Save the Harbor/Save the Bay is a Boston-based non-profit pubic interest environmental advocacy organization whose mission is to restore and protect Boston Harbor and Massachusetts Bay, and share them with the public. Since joining Save the Harbor in January of 2000, Patty Foley has taken the organization to a new level of success and effectiveness. Over the past 18 years, Foley has increased membership from 500 to more than 5,000, grown the organization’s budget from $150,000 to over $1 million per year and dramatically expanded Save the Harbor’s free youth environmental education programs that have connected more than 200,000 underserved youth and teens to Boston Harbor since their inception in 2002. Foley leads and manages a full-time staff of 7 and a summer Youth Environmental Education Program staff of 34 teachers, collage assistants and Boston high school students. She serves as a Lead Consultant to the Metropolitan Beaches Commission, which Save the Harbor leads and manages for the Legislature, charged with improving the region’s public beaches in Lynn, Nahant, Revere, Winthrop, East Boston, South Boston, Dorchester, Quincy and Hull. She also directs Save the Harbor’s Better Beaches Program, which has invested more than $1 million to support free events and programs on the region’s public beaches from Nahant to Nantasket. Under her leadership, Save the Harbor has raised more than $15 million from the region's businesses and foundations, and invested more than 80% of those funds in free programs that improve the quality of life in the City of Boston and connect the region's underserved young people and their families to Boston Harbor, our public beaches, the Boston Harbor Islands and the waterfront. In 2017, Foley received the Henry L. Shattuck City Champion Award for her leadership and commitment to the city and the sea. Show less
