In India, South Gujarat Information Technologists Association is the pioneer name among the associations of Information Technology Trade situated in Surat, a city that has a high gross domestic product, which covers the region from Vapi to Bharuch, including Valsad, Navasari, Surat, and Ankleshwar. In July 1996, it was formed to facilitate IT trade and industry in the southern part of Gujarat and to promote technological advancement in the region. The goal of the association is to improve the overall quality of the information technology trade and industry by continuously updating its members and society with the latest technology and upcoming trends by arranging successive exhibitions since last 21 years. Since '97, which was originally titled PC-Expo-97, it has evolved into IT-Expo by covering more and more aspects of changing technology trends. During SITA's 17-year history, it has witnessed a steady growth in sizes, visitor turnouts, exhibitors, and goodwill. Since 1999, many organizations have established partnerships with IT expositions like CII, GIL-Gujarat Informatics Limited, iNDEX Tb, SGCCI, and Education Institutions of Veer Narmad South Gujarat University. An IT Exhibition such as this helps to fuel the industry concentration in Hazira (which consists of world-class companies like Reliance, L&T, GSPC, ONGC, NTPC, Essar, Petronet LNG, Shell, ABG Group, and More) in Vapi and Ankleshwar as well as the technological advancements in Surat's Textile and Diamond industries.
