In year 2000, I started Shapeline AB together with a couple of friends and colleagues. For the first 10 years, I worked as a sales CEO, but also a lot with development and production. We understood early the importance of understanding the users and involving them in product development. We understood early the importance of understanding the users and involving them in product development. As a result, reliability, ease of use and serviceability became important concepts, something that would later prove to be necessary requirements for growth. Since flatness measurement is a narrow niche, we soon expanded internationally with Germany as the first export market. I established sales channels and spent a lot of time with customers in Germany, which led to Germany becoming Shapeline's most important market for the first years, but the expansion soon continued outside Europe. In 2011, we hired an external CEO and as sales and marketing manager, I focused on expanding and developing the sales organization with a lot of customer visits together with representatives. We had agents and distributors in 15 countries and a self-employed salesperson in China. Throughout the entire time at Shapeline, I was active in the board of directors as well as in the management team. During this time, I was also the initiator and team-leader of several development projects that have been further developed and has made the company a world leader in its niche. The direct collaboration with the end users has resulted in products which have quickly proved to be useful and accepted by the demanding metal industry. Together with SSAB, I also started the development of a measurement system for hot rolling mills, an extreme challenge for optical instruments. The result is “VeriShape”, the most promising product of Shapeline today. I have worked with the establishment, development and replacement of agents and distributors in many countries in 4 continents for 20 years. I enjoy international contacts and the mix of challenging measurement technology and the world as a field of work. It was a very educational time when I learned to analyze and evaluate industrial measurement and inspection problems and solve them with a team of skilled engineers. Some important lessons were to understand the end user's process, mindset and how they make money. This led to us eventually focusing on flatness measurement for the steel and metal industry, an area where we could see multiplicity possibilities and really add something new. During this time, I developed an ability to find innovative solutions based in image processing and optical measurement technology, but also to generalize and analyze the results. This has been of great benefit throughout my professional career. In 1990-91 I was a guest researcher at Monash University in Australia. I also ran my own company, Capaki Data during this time. Capaki Data developed C-based applications for various customers.
