    • Cross-curricular coordinator for KS3
      • Sep 2021 - Present

I organised drop-down days for year groups 7-9, with a focus on a particular interest that crosses diciplines. For year 7 students, their focus was on learning more about Space and Space Exploration. The day involved building model rockets, making a computer simulation of the Solar System, and playing a board game designed by NASA to explore Mars and the Moon. For year 8 students, the day focused on the topic of Alien Life and Exoplanet detection. They learned about the transit method of detection, build their own model, made alien slugs with clay in Art, learned about how we know what elements exist in a planet's atmosphere, and much more. For year 9 students, the day focused on learning about the heritage of Birmingham as the Birthplace of Heavy Metal music. They learned about the themes in Black Sabbath's early work and lyrics, learned how to play some of their iconic riffs in the Music session, and developed an appreciation for this genre of music. All of the above ideas were my own. I created the timetable for each day and managed a team of staff to deliver the sessions. Show less

    • Teacher of Physics
      • Aug 2018 - Present

I've been teaching physics to the 11-18 age group. My favourite topics to teach are Astrophysics at A-level, Fields and Consequences at A-level, and Space at GCSE. I love teaching students at KS3 the skills of scientific and critical thinking and developing in them an appreciation and love, and passion for physics and why it's important to learn it. The best moments I've experienced are finding out that a student I've taught since KS3 is choosing to do A-level Physics due to my influence, or is planning on studying Physics or Engineering at university because I inspired them to do so, nothing is more rewarding than hearing such wonderful news. I am also a great advocate for encouraging more girls to pursue STEM degrees. I would love an opportunity to work on a larger scale on the problem of the lack of girls in A-level Physics, which stands at 20% nationally. Show less
