  Research activity carried out at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (Columbia University in the City of New York) within the Cryosphere Processes Laboratory under the adviding of professor Marco Tedesco with the main goal to write my master thesis titled "ENHANCED RESOLUTION MAPPING OF MELTING OVER THE GREENLAND AND ANTARCTICA ICE SHEETS (1979-2016) USING PASSIVE MICROWAVE BRIGHTNESS TEMPERATURES" List of the activities carried out in 6 moths spent at Columbia University: -Analysis of satellite data from passive microwave sensors at enhanced spatial resolution (3.125 km) by means of algorithms written in MATLAB and production of complete interpolated dataset of brightness temperature for both Greenland and Antarctica; intersensor calibration in order to create a consistent timeseries from 1979 to 2017; study, implementation and validation (by means of Automatic Weather Station data and Regional Climate Models) of different algorithms found in literature to detect melt of snow; creation of daily melting maps for Greenland and Antarctica. -Conference attendance (AGU Fall Meeting; PARCA meeting, poster presentation of preliminary results). -Outreach and education activities -Help in writing proposals for research funding. -Writing draft of paper for publication on a scientific jurnal.
