Sze Xuan is a very determined and passionate girl, her zeal to constantly improve herself is displayed through her prominent and vocal contributions in class. She is a joy to work with because of her can-do attitude and team building skills which were valued by not only myself, but by her peers and teachers. Sze Xuan displayed a maturity, motivational level, and seriousness of purpose which I have rarely encountered during my time in Nanyang Polytechnic. She is an outstanding and inspiring person who never fails to motivate those around her. Sze Xuan is not afraid to take risks and she will sacrifice many things in order to succeed. Her ability to juggle studies and work impresses me. A confident, hard-working student and friend, I confidently recommend her for any position she wishes to undertake.

Xuan has a very sweet personality. When I'm working with her, she will always check on my well-being. She also communicate well with our colleagues at work. Xuan is a calm and fast learner as she can deal with lots of orders during peak hours even though she is still a trainee back then. I really admire her positivity at work and I love working together with her. We always enjoy working together even though our restaurant is super busy.

Being in the F&B industry allows more hands on activities which helps me understand the culture and environment as a blue collar worker. No doubt it is more interesting and fun compared to listening to a boring lecture in class, but this exposure allows me to empathize and look at perspective from blue collar workers and learn how they communicate to get the system going smoothly. For instance, i work in a Mexican cuisine where we are known for our burritos and quesadillas. To achieve our final product, it requires the chef to cook the main food items to fill up the line items, it requires 2 workers to prepare the tortilla and fill in the ingredients and lastly for the final worker to roll it up neatly for the waiter that will serve the burrito to the customer. All this takes team work and coordination to ensure we serve our customers before the 3 minute rule as we are a fast food restaurant. In hindsight, this taught me how to appreciate how fortunate i am to be living off the allowance i am given by my parents before i started working. It make me realise that money is hard to come by and it takes hard work to see that money grow in your bank account. Show less

Working at Awfully Chocolate was definitely a great experience especially with the amazing colleges and fun loving managers i associated with on a daily basis. I started this job in January while waiting for poly to start in April hence i work 5 days a week to kill time. I was still a shy, introverted individual when i first joined back then but with the help of the motivating managers and co workers there i was required to learn all the descriptions of every dessert, drinks and even confectionery which were to be properly communicated to customers when they enquire about our food items. I’ve worked at multiple outlets like Marina Bay Sands, Vivo City and Marina link mall located at the CBD area. We are expected to portray ourselves differently to meet the different needs of these customers. This job helped me boost my confidence and self esteem when i interact with customers on a daily basis. I learned to set work life and personal problems aside to ensure i put on a smile when i greet my customers. I have come across friendly, rude and even challenging customers but my managers words will always remained in my head ; ‘ customers rights always come first ‘ hence i always handle the situation well mannerly. This job has taught me life lessons that will stay with me and has made me who i am today. Show less
