LITERACY COACH SUMMARYThe Literacy Coach provides direct student assessment and assistance with students in classrooms throughout the district. The coach's office has been moved to the Barrow Elementary school so that there is direct access to students. The Literacy Coach travels to seven sites at least twice during the school year and spends at least three days at each site. The purposes of these trips are to:• work directly with teachers in a school providing classroom-based demonstrations and working with students.• provide individualized, classroom-based support to implement comprehensive reading curriculum, including modeling of best teaching practices, direct modeling of the reading program, observing and giving constructive feedback, and planning.• provide collaborative and one-on-one support in the classroom with direct student contact.• provide collaborative support between the district ELL department to meet the literacy needs of the ELL student population by one-on-one student assessment and student placement in appropriate research-based instructional strategies/interventions. • provide collaborative support between special educators and regular educators within the district to implement the district adopted literacy plan across all populations.• facilitate teacher inquiry and related professional development related to work with their students and the district adopted literacy plan. • guide teachers in the implementation and use of the District-adopted Language Arts Curriculum, programs, texts and materials. • assist classroom teachers with the implementation and use of research-based instructional strategies, state and district assessments, and RTI.• provide assistance with progress monitoring, data analysis, and placing students in appropriate research-based instructional strategies/ interventions.
