I did the general administration for a large department. I arranged the diary of the Head of School, and prepared contracts for our many ‘Hourly Paid Lecturers’, prepared many ‘Purchase Orders’, and made many purchases for other staff, using my corporate credit card. I was working on Black Smokers - hydrothermal chimneys on the sea floor. The ones I studied were unusual, they were on ultramafic rocks at the Faranaut zone (15°20'N on the Mid-Atantic Ridge). This should say IFReMer, not IFREMER! L'Institut Français de recherche pour l'exploitation de la mer. I spent 16 months in France (well, Bretagne - Brest, in Brittany). I learnt an awful lot about Black Smokers, and my French was pretty fluent, by the end. I was working on Black Smokers - hydrothermal chimneys on the sea floor.
